This Saturday is our first meet (time trials) . I would like to touch on a few things before we get there.

First thing is that as all swimmers participate in all eligible events for time trials there is no declaration this week.

Time trials are a chance to swim in events as they are done at an actual meet but it is also to get times for seeding. There will be officials and we may talk to swimmers about noted infractions but it is only for education and there are no disqualifications.

Even new swimmers may be expected to swim all events even if they lack experience to swim 100% correct strokes. This is to establish entry times for future seedings and entry times are required to enter events at future meets.

Outside of no disqualifications, event limits or relays set up and meet will be similar to all other meets.

That's my quick run down for how the meet will run....BUT there is another half to time trials and that is, this is our first family reunion of the year. Make this an opportunity for new families to learn from experienced families that have gone through summer swim league. Make a buddy that you can ask if something is unfamiliar. If buddies are hard to find, come see me. I will try to help.

It has been many years since I was a rookie parent and I know over those years I have forgotten how daunting this can be for the first time. If I could offer only one suggestion it would be that I want you as a parent to enjoy these crazy Saturdays and create fun times and great friendships for your kids.
