COACHES' CORNER
What a great time trial meet! It was so great to see the kidsâ hard work this past 2 weeks pay off in the pool! We are already seeing growth and are looking forward to an amazing season.
Moving forward, our meets will all have relays. Relays are exciting and important, and the goal is to support both team success, team spirit, and good sportsmanship. Here is some important information about relays:
What is a relay?
A relay consists of 4 swimmers who each swim a leg of the relay in order to score points for our team. For a meet we can have up to 3 relays per age group each for both boys and girls (An âA" relay, âBâ relay and a âCâ relay.) For age groups that have more than 12 swimmers, not all swimmers will be placed in a relay.
Relay Selection Factors
Relay teams are determined based on swimmersâ best times and consistency. Progress, effort, and practice performance are considered; however, ultimately the process is quantitative- meaning swimmers will be ranked by times and placed in relays with the goal of generating points for our team. Individual swimmerâs times may change from week to week, and so placements may also change week to week.
We hope any new-to-summer league parents found this information helpful! We truly appreciate your support and are committed to helping each swimmer grow and succeed both individually and as part of the team.
