Volunteering Positions
Good morning parents,
My records show that you have not yet signed up to volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering but do not know where to start, I’m here to help. From my viewpoint, I need your volunteering skills far more than your volunteer check, so my job is now to do whatever I can within my power to help families get to 20 points.
Here is some information that you may find helpful. Extended family and even friends are welcome to volunteer in your place. The only stipulation we state is that the volunteer must be at least 16 years old. We used to have the age limit at 18 but I feel a 16/17 year old can handle most of the volunteer positions. I have two families that bring family/friends and get their quota out of the way in one or two swim meets. That is completely fine and even encourages since some families with young children find it hard to volunteer. This is actually the main reason I’m the volunteer coordinator. I’m free during the meets to watch my 3 year old.
We have many positions open at both Time Trial meets. These meets are the shortest, since it’s only us, and the coolest. If you want to get easy points, these are the meets to do it at. I have a second shift Concessions at Time Trials 1 worth 3 points. Our second Time Trial meet has an opening in the Equipment Crew worth 2 points. Great for a dad to show up, set up, then still have time to volunteer during the meet. And again, it’s much cooler these mornings than in June. I have various open positions at our Bear Branch home meet and finally, I have a bunch of open positions at Divisionals. Some positions at Divisionals may change shifts when the final list comes out in late May, however the positions that I know will not change are the Consessions, Timers, and Scribes. I have many Concessions and a few remaining Timers/Scribes that need to be filled. Concessions is a great way to rack up points, too.
Another option is to join our Officials corps. Being an official at a swim meet is a season-long position that you get to keep for as long as you want. Season-long positions are worth the quota, no matter what the number is. In addition, get 50 % of your first swimmer registration refunded if you work every meet. You also get free lunches at the meets. We have one class remaining on 4/30 here in Kingwood. It’s a great opportunity and an even greater position. People who officiate, rarely do anything else. If interested, let me know or email [email protected].
Please consider volunteering. Most of the positions still open are required positions, meaning the meets stops until all are filled. Getting to 20 is not as hard as you think. Remember, my job is to help you get there, so email if you need any help.
Go Marlins!!!
